CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Thursday activated its motorist assistance program in time for the observance of Undas or All Saints' Day and All Souls’ Day.
Dubbed as “Lakbay Alalay", the program aims to provide prompt service to motorists and commuters as they travel to cemeteries, memorial parks, and churches in and out of the region.

DPWH 3 (Central Luzon) Director Roseller Tolentino said that upon the instruction of Public Works Secretary Mark Villar, they deployed teams to major thoroughfares and places of convergence to assist motorists and commuters starting Thursday morning until noon of November 4.

“This is beyond and above our efforts to ensure pothole-free pavements along our national thoroughfares that our maintenance teams did weeks prior (to) this occasion as part of our Motorist Assistance Program,” Tolentino said.
He also said that the DPWH set up “Lakbay Alalay” stations on strategic places that will be manned round-the-clock by its personnel to serve the public in normal and emergency situations.

“DPWH personnel are also in close coordination with the Land Transportation Office, Philippine National Police, and local government units to guarantee that quality service will be provided to the motoring public,” he said.

Aside from assistance, the DPWH district engineering offices in the region were also instructed to maintain and keep in good shape the national highways, especially those leading to cemeteries, for safe travel and to ensure an uninterrupted flow of traffic.

“Regulatory warning signs are also posted on the ongoing road works around the region to avoid hassle to the traveling public and secure their safety,” he added. (PNA)
