TACLOBAN CITY -- The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has rescued a fisherman after his fishing boat capsized off the coast of Abuyog, Leyte on Tuesday.

Reports reaching PCG Command Center in Manila disclosed that personnel from Coast Guard Eastern Leyte station and Silago, Southern Leyte substation responded to the area and rescued Mario Gaytana, 63, from Matalom, Leyte.

Authorities rescued him around 8 a.m. on Tuesday after hours of clinging to the capsized vessel.

"The Coast Guard proceeded to the said incident to conduct search and rescue operations. The team sighted and successfully rescued the victim in the good physical condition and later turned over to his family," the PCG said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
