MANILA -- The Duterte administration’s “very good” net satisfaction rating reflects how Filipinos can see past the opposition’s “endless politicking”, Malacañang said on Thursday.

In a recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey, results showed that 78 percent of adult Filipinos are satisfied with the Duterte administration’s performance where it scored net satisfaction of +67 (very good), which is six points lower than the +73 (excellent) in June 2019.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said despite the decline in the administration’s net satisfaction rating, it showed that people acknowledged President Rodrigo Duterte’s “genuine empathy, transparency, and decisiveness”.

“The rating, classified by the independent pollster as very good, demonstrates that a significant number of our countrymen possesses discernment that can stand and see beyond the endless politicking managed by the opposition, as well as the rhetorical aspersions peddled by the President's detractors, critics and skeptics,” Panelo said in a statement.

Despite the favorable net satisfaction rating, Panelo said Duterte was not trying to take in any “popularity contest” but rather do job in accordance to the Constitution.

“He (Duterte) could not care less about these scores because for him, the true measure of proper governance and public service is accomplishing the job entrusted to him by the electorate without expecting any reward for it,” Panelo said.

The SWS survey showed that the Duterte administration’s net satisfaction rating was “very good” on helping the poor; providing information needed by the citizens to properly examine what the government is doing; and having clear policies, are the highest thereby signifying their acknowledgement of the President’s genuine empathy, transparency and decisiveness.

It was “good” on fighting terrorism, developing a healthy economy, protecting the freedom of the press, acting according to what the people want, fighting crimes that victimize ordinary citizens, like killings, holdups, robberies, physical violence, etc., reconciliation with Muslim rebels, foreign relations, reconciliation with communist rebels, eradicating graft and corruption in government, recovering ill-gotten wealth of former President Ferdinand Marcos and his cronies and defending Philippine sovereignty in the West Philippine Sea.

It was “moderate” on ensuring that no family will ever be hungry and have nothing to eat and “neutral” on fighting inflation.

The Duterte administration's 6-point decrease was due to a decline of 10 points in Mindanao, 10 points in Balance Luzon, and 1 point in the Visayas, combined with a 12-point increase in Metro Manila.

By class, the administration’s net satisfaction rating fell from excellent to very good in class D, declined from excellent to very good in class E, but rose from very good to excellent in class ABC.

By educational level, net satisfaction with the National Administration fell from excellent to very good among elementary graduates, stayed excellent among high school graduates, stayed very good among non-elementary graduates and college graduates.

The SWS survey was conducted from Sept. 27 to 30 using face-to-face interviews of 1,800 adults nationwide. (PNA)
