CEBU CITY – The chief of the Police Regional Office (PRO) in Central Visayas on Thursday ordered the Dumaguete City police to conduct an in-depth investigation on the killing of 67-year-old radio broadcaster Dindo Generoso.

“I have already ordered a thorough investigation of this case. All angles will be looked into to determine the motive of this attack against Dindo Generoso,” PRO-7 chief, Brigadier General Valeriano de Leon, said in a statement.

Generoso was driving his car on his way to the DyEM 96.7 Bai Radio station when he was shot by motorcycle riding assailants along Hibbard Avenue, Piapi village on Thursday around 7:30 a.m.

The radioman died on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds.

“We are now cooperating with the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) for the immediate solution of this. We will not stop until those involved are brought to justice,” said de Leon.

De Leon quoted PTFoMS chief, Undersecretary Joel Sy Egco as saying that Generoso was an anchor for development programs of the local government, including a controversial reclamation project that was halted by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) last week.

He said Generoso’s radio block-time program on Bai Radio was reportedly sponsored by the city government of Dumaguete as an extension of its public information office.

During the May 2016 mid-term elections, Generoso ran but lost for the mayoralty race in Dumaguete City. (PNA)
