DAVAO CITY -- Law enforcement authorities here have expressed support to the appointment of Vice President Leni Robredo as co-chair of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD) on Wednesday.

In a press briefing here on Wednesday, Davao City Police chief, Col. Kirby John Kraft, said they would adhere to and support the President's appointment of Robredo to the ICAD.

“We will wait for the orders if there are changes in the anti-drug campaign. But right now, we will continue our fight against illegal drugs,” Kraft said.

On the other hand, Maj. Jason Baria, spokesperson of Police Regional Office 11 (Davao), said they would abide by Robredo's directives.

“If there are instructions coming from the Vice President to ensure the success of the anti-drug war, we still follow them,” he said.

Meanwhile, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 11 Director Antonio Rivera also expressed full support for Robredo’s appointment.

Rivera said Robredo could give operational direction to all cluster heads involved in the government's anti-drug operations.

“I hope that she could consolidate all the clusters’ effort to improve more on our accomplishments,” he added.

ICAD was formed in March 2017 through Executive Order 15 to ensure the effectiveness and success of the anti-drug war.

In a memorandum dated October 31, President Rodrigo Duterte said that unless revoked, Robredo’s role as co-chair of ICAD would last until June 30, 2022.

In accepting the position, Robredo expressed hope that she could "save lives" and provide a fresh perspective to the government's drug war. (PNA)
