BACOLOD CITY -- The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) turned over PHP7.25-million worth of farm implements to eight farmer associations based in northern Negros Occidental on Friday.

Teresita Mabunay, officer-in-charge provincial agrarian reform program officer II, said she hoped that through the facilities provided by the government, the recipient-agrarian reform beneficiary organizations (ARBOs) would be able to increase their farm production and income.

“May this prosper and reform your lives. May this project better and improve the quality of your lives,” Mabunay told the officials and representatives of the ARBOs during the turnover program held at the DAR Negros Occidental I (North) provincial office grounds here.

The beneficiaries were the Guin-olayan Agrarian Reform Cooperative, Barangay San Pablo Farmers Association, Hacienda Mercy Farmworkers Association, and Chambery Farm Workers Association, all in Manapla town; the Aluyan Small Farmers Association, Sitio Tagud Farmworkers Association, and Barangay Celestino Villacin Farmers Association, all in Cadiz City; and Barangay Quezon Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Association in San Carlos City.

The DAR Negros Occidental I (North) distributed 51 farm implements, consisting of 10 collapsible dryers, eight floating tillers, six rice reapers, six rice threshers, five rice weeders, five hand tractors, five mobile rice mills, three water pumps, and three shredders.

The equipment was awarded under the agency’s Climate-Resilient Farm Productivity Support Project (CRFPS), which is geared towards the goal of building resiliency for agrarian reform communities.

The project emphasizes enhancing and sustaining the agricultural productivity of the ARBOs as adaptation measures towards farming mechanization.
Before the turnover, the recipient-ARBOs underwent orientation and training on operations and maintenance of the common service facilities. They also signed a trust agreement with the implementing agency. (PNA)
