CEBU CITY -- The regional director of the Police Regional Office-7 (PRO-7) on Monday ordered Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office chief, Col. Julian Entoma to focus on establishing “air-tight” case against the mastermind in the murder of a broadcast journalist in Dumaguete City.
PRO-7 chief Brig. Gen. Valeriano de Leon, quoting the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS), said an influential local politician could be behind the killing of radio broadcaster Dindo Generoso.
At least five tracker teams have been deployed to arrest two more suspects -- police Cpl. Roger Lindayao Rubio and alleged gambling lord Tomacino Aledro -- who are facing murder charges along with two other suspects in connection with the killing of Generoso.
De Leon, quoting Entoma, said that an initial amount of PHP80,000 has been offered to anyone who can give the whereabouts of Rubio and Aledro.
Generoso was driving his car on his way to the dyEM-FM Bai Radio 96.7 station when he was shot dead in Barangay Piapi, Dumaguete City last November 7.
The chief of the regional police said in a statement that the possible motives in the Generoso slay are his work as a hard-hitting radio block-time commentator, politics, and land dispute.
The reward money came from a concerned citizen and the amount could be raised to more than a million pesos as more and more donors “are giving their support” for the immediate arrest of all the suspects including the mastermind, Entoma said.
Aside from Rubio and Aledro, two other suspects -- Teddy Reyes Salaw and retired policeman Glenn Corsam -- who were arrested earlier have also been charged with murder.
Salaw is the brother-in-law of Aledro who has reportedly fled the country for the United States.
Entoma’s office has coordinated with the Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Aledro’s reported flight abroad.
Aledro owns the Mitsubishi pick-up used by the other suspects in the murder of Generoso. The car was recovered later by a tracker team in Valencia City, Negros Oriental.
The police believed Rubio, a member of the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company, could still be in Negros peninsula.
