CEBU CITY -- Believing in their potentials to become future entrepreneurs, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Central Visayas is seeking out the youth in the region to participate in a program that would hone their entrepreneurial skills.

Maria Elena Arbon, assistant regional director of DTI-7, on Monday invited young entrepreneurs and would-be entrepreneurs in the region to participate in the Youth Entrepreneurs Program (YEP) Cebu Roadshow on Nov. 27 at the Cebu Parklane Hotel.

Arbon said YEP is a nationwide program that seeks to assist young Filipinos in their quest to become entrepreneurs by offering them different content and workshops that aim to motivate and equip them with basic knowledge to start their business.

Under the program, youth with ages 18 to 35 who are willing to learn about entrepreneurship are encouraged to register online using the link https:/bit.ly/2NdmT1s.

Only those who have registered online and confirmed their attendance would be accommodated in the event that targets a maximum of 200 participants, she said.

“Since seats for YEP 2019 are limited, interested parties are encouraged to join the wait list as DTI will still screen all registrants,” Arbon said in a statement, adding that the registrants will get an email confirming their participation to the event.

In the Cebu roadshow, the DTI will engage the youth in a three breakout sessions that will tackle startup, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and self-improvement that tends to instill in them business mindset, she said.

The participant, she added, will also learn in the startup track the importance of company culture, aligning themselves or their startup culture with the talent they wish to attract, and learn to discover the viability of their proposed business model.

She said the MSMEs track will expose the participants with content that will encourage them to create social media channels, underscore the importance of staying online, especially for businesses which are run in a one-man show.

DTI-7 will also draw the youth participants in a logical thinking enrichment session which would instill in them the ability to control emotions, prevent their judgment from being clouded, and dictate their course of action during the self-improvement track of the YEP Cebu Roadshow 2019.

This year’s program carries the tagline “Harnessing Our Own Resources for the Advancement of the Youth!”

“YEP supports the government’s growth agenda of doubling the number of entrepreneurs in the country by 2022 which will in turn, broaden the gains of economic development, address inequality, and uplift the quality of life of Filipinos, particularly the youth,” Arbon added. (PNA)
