CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao -- Soldiers belonging to the Army’s 90th Infantry Battalion (90IB) arrested two men for possession of a handgun and ammunition while passing by onboard a motorbike at an Army checkpoint in Talitay, Maguindanao on Wednesday afternoon.

The suspects, identified as Castro Manalandang and Alamada Nok, both of Barangay Nunangan, Datu Anggal Midtimbang, Maguindanao, were flagged down at the 90IB checkpoint set up along Sitio Tamlang, Barangay Kiladap, Talitay.

Soldiers found a .45-caliber pistol from Manalandang who failed to show documents legalizing his possession of a weapon.

Aside from the pistol, soldiers also found two steel firearm magazines with bullets and identification cards from the suspects.

“The suspects were riding a motorcycle without a plate number, making the soldiers more suspicious about the duo’s movements,” said Maj. Gen. Diosdado C. Carreon, 6ID commander.

Carreon lauded the soldiers’ alertness and reminded everyone under the jurisdiction of the 6ID to adhere to the rule of law as Mindanao is still under martial law.

“The strict implementation of security measures by our troops intends to help prevent criminalities and terrorism in Central Mindanao,” he said.

The 90IB turned over the suspects, together with the confiscated firearm and ammunition, to the Talitay police office for the filing of appropriate charges. (PNA)
