BUTUAN CITY -- The Department of the Interior and Local Government in Caraga Region (DILG-13) facilitated the simultaneous conduct of Constitutional Reform (CORE) Roadshow for the province of Agusan del Norte and the City of Butuan on Tuesday.

The simultaneous CORE roadshow was joined by more than 200 representatives from local government units (LGUs) in Agusan del Norte, barangay officials, students, and representatives from civil society organizations (CSOs).

In her welcome message, DILG-13 Regional Director Lilibeth Famacion said the systematic change needed to advance the development of the country must begin with constitutional reform.

In the midst of the problems that the country faces now, Famacion emphasized that “drastic change is needed and we cannot wait anymore for another time other than now.”

She said the government is pushing for a real change and the roadshows that CORE are doing in the country, particularly in Caraga Region, become a venue where people are informed on constitutional reforms and federalism.

Tuesday's activity was graced by Gary B. Olivar of the Center for Federalism and Constitutional Task Force and a member of the Study Group of Inter-Agency Task Force for Constitutional Reforms and Federalism.

Olivar told participants that CORE and the DILG are working hand-in-hand to disseminate vital information on constitutional reform and federalism to government institutions, LGUs, barangay officials, and even in communities.

In his presentation, Olivar focused on four major pillars being advocated by constitutional reforms and federalism. The pillars are: Decongestion of Metro Manila and Enriching the provinces; A Government for the People, not for the Traditional Politicians; An Open Economy that will bring Hope for the People; and A New Constitution for the New Generation.

Olivar said the proposed constitutional reforms will allow inclusive growth, empower the regional and local government units, and strengthen political parties in the country. (PNA)
