CEBU CITY -- At least 553 uniformed personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) assigned in the regional headquarters here and Cebu province on Monday received their new higher ranks in a donning ceremony at the regional headquarters in Camp Sergio Osmeña Sr., this city.

This number of police officers forms part of the 941 uniformed personnel from Central Visayas who were promoted to the next higher rank.

Brig. Gen. Valeriano de Leon, chief of PRO-7 who led the mass donning of rank, reminded the newly-promoted cops in the region to strive hard in their mission in ensuring peace and safety of the Visayan community.

Of the 941 newly promoted cops, 909 who received their “second-level” promotion were non-commissioned officers holding the rank of Patrolman to Executive Master Sergeant of the Philippine National Police (PNP), while 32 were commissioned officers holding the ranks of Lieutenant to Lieutenant Colonel.

Apart from the 553 promotees from the regional headquarters of PRO-7, Cebu Provincial Police Office and Cebu City Police Office, a total of 188 will also get their new rank in a donning ceremony in Bohol Provincial Police Office, 172 in Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office, and 28 in Siquior Provincial Police Office.

“This oath-taking and donning of ranks of newly-promoted PNP personnel reminds us that we do not rest on our laurels and instead we strive to do better for the good of our organization…” de Leon said, as he hailed their accomplishments and “continued teamwork in remaining firm in collective desire to promote public trust to the PNP organization.

He said promotion marks the new chapter of the police profession that carries deep expectation to continue doing the job that is expected of the newly-promoted personnel.

“Your new rank symbolizes greater glory and greater challenges. And as you exercise your responsibilities on a higher capacity, you are looked upon by your leadership competence, behavioral discipline and organizational effectiveness not only to measure up to challenging expectations of our organization, even more, the strengthening of the accomplishment of the transformation to attain our vision of becoming a highly capable, effective, and credible police service,” de Leon added.

The top police official in Central Visayas also encouraged the cops to remain determined and enthusiastic in “performing commendable performance” in carrying their duties and responsibilities as law enforcers.

He also rallied the police personnel during the donning rite to abide by the current PNP leadership to work side by side with President Rodrigo Duterte in helping “fulfill his promise of genuine change for the Filipino people and of a more disinclined and better police force.”

“Let us promote trustworthiness in our PNP organization. We will never falter in showing our firm commitment to cleanse our ranks, continue our intensified campaign against criminality and illegal drugs as well as all our practical programs for crime prevention and suppression…” he added.

De Leon expressed his gratitude to the family members of the promoted cops for their “contribution to police works in the day-to-day support you provide to your loved ones.” (PNA)
