ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The city government of Isabela City in Basilan province released on Thursday more than PHP2.2 million in development assistance to all barangays.

Isabela City Mayor Sittio Djalia Turabin-Hataman, who personally released the fund, said each of the 45 barangays received a PHP50,000 check.

Hataman said they can use the money to purchase office supplies, equipment, and other needs, including Christmas decorations as the Yuletide season nears.

She said there will be a Christmas decoration contest among the barangays this holiday season to encourage them to decorate and beautify their respective areas.

A simultaneous switch-on of all Christmas lights and other electrical decorations will also be held on December 5 for the barangays within a 7-km. radius, Hataman said.

She added that the barangays outside the 7-km. radius, including those in the islands, can join the simultaneous switch-on if they wish to do so.

Isabela City, aside from being the capital of Basilan, is also a center of trade and commerce of the province. (PNA)
