ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The city government here is set to distribute the second batch of garbage compactor and dump trucks to 20 barangays on Monday (December 2).

City Public Services Officer IV Rodrigo Pagotaisidro said Thursday the next barangays to receive the compactor garbage and dump trucks are Arena Blanco, Bungiao, Cabaluay, Cacao, Guisao, Lamisahan, Manicahan, Mampang, Talabaan, Victoria, Bolong, Panubigan, Capisan, Dulian-Upper Pasonanca, Malagutay, Pamucutan, Sinubong, Talisayan, Patalon, and Sta. Barbara.

The first batch of 20 barangays received their respective trucks last November 25.

“We distribute the trucks by batches. The barangays that need most are given the priority so that they can immediately implement their solid waste management,” Pagotaisidro said.

He reminded barangay officials that it is their responsibility to manage the cleanliness and sanitation of their respective barangays based on memorandum circular issued by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and City Ordinance 2016-176.

He said non-compliance with the DILG’s memorandum circular will face sanctions.

Meanwhile, Pagotaisidro said they are set to consult the village chiefs of the island barangays to determine what equipment they need to implement the solid waste management program in their respective areas.

Pagotaisidro said six of the city’s 98 barangays are island villages. (PNA)
