MANILA -- Malacañang urged Filipinos to brace for Typhoon Tisoy (international name Kammuri) which is expected to make landfall in Catanduanes Monday night and cross the regions of Bicol and Calabarzon (Region 4-A).
In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo assured that the Office of the President is monitoring areas likely to be hit by the typhoon.
“We ask the public, especially residents who will be affected by the typhoon to stay vigilant, check the latest weather advisory in their respective areas through government social media accounts,” Panelo said.
He also asked the public to “coordinate with their local disaster and risk reduction management offices for appropriate and responsive action.”
Earlier, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned of possible disruptions of some events in the ongoing 30th Southeast Asian Games.
The multisport meet is being held in Metro Manila; Subic, Zambales; Clark, Pampanga and other parts of Southern and Central Luzon.
Intermittent to occasional heavy rains are expected over the Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, northern Cebu, Dinagat Islands and Siargao Island, as well as Romblon, Mindoro provinces, Samar, Eastern Samar and the rest of Calabarzon, Metro Manila, Central Luzon, eastern portions of Cagayan and Isabela, and the rest of Eastern Visayas.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) Operation Center remains under blue alert.
Concerned disaster-related agencies are now on standby 24/7.
In addition, a total of 434 families or 1,328 persons have been preemptively evacuated from the municipalities of Basud, Jose Panganiban, and Vinzons, Camarines Norte.
Stockpiles and standby funds have been prepositioned by the Department of Social Welfare and Development as early as December 1, 2019.
Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of the Philippines alerted all of its humanitarian assistance disaster response (HADR) units to help in the government efforts to mitigate the effects of the typhoon.
HADR units are specifically trained and equipped to conduct search, rescue, and retrieval operations. (PNA)
