SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique -- Fourteen towns of Antique, now under tropical cyclone wind signal No. 1, have suspended classes on Monday due to Typhoon "Tisoy" (Kammuri).

Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (PDRRM) Officer Broderick Train said that as of Monday, classes had been suspended in the towns of Libertad, Pandan, Valderrama, Sibalom, San Remigio, Hamtic, Tobias Fornier, Anini-y, Patnongon, San Jose de Buenavista, Belison, Caluya, Barbaza, and Tibiao.

Some municipalities ordered the suspension of classes from pre-school to senior high school level while others suspended classes in all levels.

Train said fishermen were prohibited to sail in open seas starting Monday until the weather has improved.

He added that all roads in Antique remain passable. Public utility vehicles from Antique to Iloilo City and Antique to Aklan are still on their regular operations.

The PDRRM Operations Center is on blue alert, which means close monitoring of the situation in the province.

Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao, in a press conference, urged residents to take precautionary measures such as staying indoors as the typhoon approaches.

In its 11 a.m. severe weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Tisoy was last seen 235 kilometers east southeast of Virac, Catanduanes, or 250 kilometers east of Juban, Sorsogon.

Tisoy packs maximum sustained winds of up to 150 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 185 kph. It is moving west at 25 kph.

PAGASA expects Tisoy to make landfall over Catanduanes, Albay, or Sorsogon, between Monday night and Tuesday morning. (PNA)
