SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique -- Typhoon "Tisoy" (Kammuri) has forced the suspension of classes in Antique on Tuesday and cancellation of flights between the province and Clark, Pampanga.

Broderick Train, Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (PDRRM) Officer, said in an interview on Tuesday the 18 local government units (LGUs) in the province decided to suspend classes from preschool to college level on December 3 for the safety of their students.

“The province of Antique from Anini-y to Barbaza towns had been placed under Typhoon Signal Number 1 while the towns of Barbaza to Caluya under signal number 2,” Train said.

The southern, central and some portions of northern Antique under Typhoon Signal Number 1 are Anini-y, Tobias Fornier, Hamtic, San Jose de Buenavista, Sibalom, San Remigio, Belison, Patnongon, Bugasong, Valderrama, and Laua-an.

Typhoon Signal Number 2 was raised in the northern municipalities of Antique to include Barbaza, Tibiao, Culasi, Sebaste, Pandan, Libertad and Caluya.

Train said that aside from the suspension of classes, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) informed the PDRRMO that Philippine Airlines flights were canceled between Clark and Antique because of the inclement weather.

“There is no PAL flight on Tuesday,” he said. The PAL, the only air transport flying Clark to Antique airport every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday, had decided to cancel the flight because of Typhoon Tisoy.

Meanwhile, Train said that the government offices in the province are still open despite the typhoon.

“Government offices are only allowed to suspend its work if it is Typhoon Signal Number 3,” he said.

He said that sea travel including in the ports of Libertad, Caluya, and Culasi has been suspended since Monday with the fishermen discouraged to go out to the sea.

“So far there is still no casualty monitored due to the typhoon,” Train said. (PNA)
