RAMON, Isabela -- The National Irrigation Administration-Magat River Integrated Irrigation System (NIA-MRIIS) delayed the release of dam water from its reservoir as minimal rain showers have been reported in its watershed, an official said on Tuesday.

Engineer Eduardo Ramos, NIA-MRIIS division manager, said in a news briefing here that the management delayed the release despite its earlier announcement of a 200-cubic-meter-per-second water releases starting Dec. 3 to prevent a large volume of water from filling up Magat’s reservoir.

He, however, advised villagers to remain on alert as the dam may still release water anytime.

“We cautioned the public to be always on alert for the impending releases,” he said.

Local government officials had canceled classes at all levels in both public and private schools on Tuesday as Typhoon Tisoy pummeled many parts of the country.

Both acting Governor Julius Caesar Vaquilar of Quirino Province and Mayor Romeo Tayaban of Kasibu in Nueva Vizcaya had issued orders suspending the classes to "ensure the safety of residents."

The landslide-prone Antutot Road in Kasibu, Nueva Vizcaya was also closed to traffic due to soil erosions.

Floodwaters had swelled rivers such as along Manglad and San Pedro bridges in Maddela, Quirino. (PNA)
