DARAGA, Albay -- The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) is conducting massive distribution of potable water to the victims of Typhoon Tisoy in various barangays here.
This after Mayor Victor Perete earlier called on PRC-Albay chapter administrator Rosiedel Rivero to lead the distribution of drinking water particularly in the most affected barangays in Daraga town.
The town’s water reservoir in Barangay Budiao was totally damaged by floods due to the typhoon.
Perete said based from the report of the Daraga Water District, the water supply was restored in the system but flushing activities have to be conducted to remove airlocks.
“The reinforcement from Red Cross will continue through their water truck for water deliveries,” he said.
At least 80 percent of Daraga’s 126,595 population was affected by the lack of water supply from Prime Water, a concessionaire of Daraga Water District.
“Distribution of potable water supply in every affected barangay will continue until such time that the water system of Prime Water is totally or 100% restored,” Perete said.
Aside from refilling water, Red Cross is also distributing non-food items to most affected families. (PNA)
