Funds sought to fix typhoon-hit police stations in N. Samar

PALO, Leyte -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) regional office here is seeking financial assistance from the national headquarters to repair 15 police station buildings in Northern Samar damaged by Typhoon "Tisoy" (Kammuri) last week.

Brig. Gen. Ariel Arcinas, PNP Eastern Visayas deputy regional director for administration, said Tuesday the damaged police stations need at least PHP1 million for its repair.

The request has already been sent to their main office this week.

In Northern Samar, damaged police stations are in Allen, San Isidro, Victoria, Mondragon, Rosario, Pambujan, San Jose, Gamay, San Roque, Mapanas, Bobon, Biri, Las Navas, 1st mobile force company, and provincial headquarters.

“We are expecting from our national headquarters to fast-track the release of funds for the immediate repair of said damaged infrastructures. Even with what happened, we can assure the public that our service is uninterrupted,” Arcinas told reporters.

Major Aspiro Badiola, officer-in-charge of police regional engineering unit, reported they need to fix the damaged roofing, ceiling, scaffolding, painting, gutter and ridge roll, ceiling eaves, water line pipe, ceiling at the roof deck area, broken window glass, and broken door glass.

“Other police units like in Biri, Las Navas, and 1st mobile force company have no complete estimate damage yet due to difficulty of communication,” Badiola said.

Tisoy brought strong winds of more than 135 kph and 605-mm of rainfall in 24 hours in Northern Samar on December 2 and 3.

The rapid damage assessment and needs analysis showed that the typhoon has affected 224,171 individuals or more than a fifth of the population of the province.

Based on the post-disaster assessment, Tisoy damaged 28,577 houses and washed out 3,774 more.
