LINGAYEN, Pangasinan -- The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) has recorded no damage to agriculture and infrastructure in the province following the onslaught of Typhoon “Tisoy”.

In an interview Tuesday, PDRRMO spokesperson Avenix Arenas said the local government units (LGUs) have not reported any damage in their areas of jurisdiction while their reports were on preparedness measures.

"The typhoon brought only little rain amid the storm signal number 2 raised in the province. The LGUs have prepared for it as well as the provincial government," she said.

Provincial agriculturist Dalisay Moya, meanwhile, said the typhoon did not cause any damage to crops, instead it could be beneficial to the irrigation on the farmlands.

"It is the cropping season for rice and corn. If it is the planting season for corn, it would have been damaging. But since it is the cropping season, it augmented the irrigation requirement. Both rice and corn needed water," she said.

She added the effect of El Niño in some irrigation systems in the province is still felt.

"Our farmlands are fully irrigated," Moya said.

Pangasinan has 180,000 hectares of farmland planted with rice and corn, among others, all over the province.

"Year round, we need rain but we need it most when the crops are already on their reproductive stage," she said in a recent interview.
