BUTUAN CITY -- Tourism stakeholders in Caraga Region convened for a two-day consultation workshop starting Monday in a bid to update its tourism strategic framework.

Conducted by the Department of Tourism in the Caraga Region (DOT-13), the workshop seeks to generate in-depth discussions in order to come up with recommendations to bring up to date Caraga tourism framework and directions.

It is being attended by tourism officers from provinces, towns, and cities in the region as well as representatives of government line agencies and the private sectors.

“This is the review of the tourism masterplan for Caraga Region,” DOT-13 OIC Regional Director Mary Jean Camarin told reporters on Monday.

Camarin said the tourism masterplan for Caraga Region was completed in 1999 and the need to review it is of great significance before the year ends.

“It’s already 2019 so we need to go back and review the visions, targets, the projects that we have enumerated then,” Camarin added.

The ongoing review, she said, will provide the DOT-13 and its stakeholders the necessary tools to continue with the tourism services, programs and projects next year.

“We have to make sure that the regional tourism masterplan of Caraga is aligned with the National Tourism Development Plan,” Camarin added.

Inputs from LGUs, government line agencies, tourism officers and the private sector during the consultation-workshop will be used to update the tourism masterplan of the Caraga Region, she said. (PNA)
