BULAKAN, Bulacan -- A 54-year-old man who died last week after exhibiting symptoms of meningococcemia tested negative of the highly contagious disease.

Mayor Vergel Meneses said on Wednesday that officials of the San Lazaro Hospital and Bulacan Provincial Health Office have released an official statement wherein the patient was cleared of the meningococcal bacteria.

“Based on the official result sent by Dr. Joy Gomez of the Provincial Health Office to the local government of Bulakan, the patient was negative of said disease and there is no need for the Bulakenyos to worry,” Meneses said.

The patient was first admitted at the Gregorio Del Pilar District Hospital in this town after experiencing symptoms of meningococcemia and later transferred to San Lazaro Hospital in Manila where he died last December 11. (PNA)
