CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) regional office here has reactivated its motorist assistance program in anticipation of the increased road use during the holiday season.

DPWH regional director Roseller Tolentino said the reactivation of the motorists’ assistance program “Lakbay Alalay” is in compliance with the directive of Public Works Undersecretary Dimas Soguilon to deploy teams starting Friday until January 2020.

“We are anticipating a surge in traffic volume in our major thoroughfares in the region, the reason for the re-installation of the motorists' assistance stations all over Central Luzon,” Tolentino said.

He said trained technical personnel from the 14 district engineering offices in the region will manage the operation of and man the stations 24/7 to attend to emergency situations.

He also said district engineering offices with ongoing construction and maintenance projects must properly coordinate with the concerned contractors for the scheduling of their road works and for the installation of the necessary traffic advisories, including the road’s warning signs.

“Our maintenance teams will ensure the safe travel of motorists and the uninterrupted transport flow during the holiday rush, and I encourage all motorists also to make safety a priority while on the road,” he added. (PNA)
