PADADA, Davao del Sur -- Senator Christopher Lawrence Go has committed housing and other forms of assistance to a military retiree and other victims of the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that hit this province and neighboring areas on December 15.

During his visit here Sunday, Go assured retired Army TSgt. Jessie Perez that his damaged house would be rebuilt through the assistance of the National Housing Authority (NHA).

Perez's retirement house collapsed during the quake, prompting an outpouring of support from the community for the 33-year combat veteran.

Go made the same assurance to Antonio Ortega, who lost his home in the disaster.

“‘Rest assured that they will be given aid since NHA will help them," Go said.

Meanwhile, Go also promised medical assistance to Darlyn Montalvo, a 23-year-old pregnant woman of 40 weeks who was hit by falling concrete that fractured her leg.

Go assured that she will also be provided with livelihood assistance by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), on top of the cash assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

"We will also bring her to Davao City for her medical needs," he added.

On the other hand, Go also said his office will assist the family of Cherberlchen Imgador, a 6-year-old child from Matanao, Davao del Sur, who died on the spot after the quake caused the roofing of their house to fall on to her.

Go provided the family cash assistance to cover the burial and other expenses plus food and grocery packs from other agencies.

"The family is being processed by NHA for housing provision," he added. (PNA)
