BUTUAN CITY – The city government of Surigao on Tuesday offered a PHP200,000 reward for the arrest of persons responsible in the killing of a village councilor.

Mayor Ernesto Matugas said the reward money seeks to speed up the resolution of the killing of Barangay Balibayon councilor Lanie Escalante Tereso.

Tereso, also a former barangay captain, was gunned down by unidentified persons at her residence in the same village at about 3:20 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police said the victim was sitting outside her house alone when the gunmen, riding a black motorcycle with no plate number, passed by, fired upon Tereso, and fled.

Her neighbors were able to bring Tereso to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead by attending physicians.
Matugas urged residents who may have vital information surrounding the incident to come forward and not to be afraid to contact the authorities.

Lt. Col. Christian Rafols, Surigao City police chief, also underscored the importance of leads that may help identify the perpetrators.
Rafols said a manhunt for the killers was ongoing. (PNA)
