BUTUAN CITY -- Suspected members of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) burned two civilian-owned dump trucks and a hauler vehicle in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur, police said.

The Agusan del Sur Provincial Police Office said the incident took place around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday (January 8) in Barangay Libertad, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.

Damaged during the incident were a Fuso dump truck and an Isuzu flat-bed hauler owned by Jose Necresio Torrejas Orapa, 50, a businessman and resident in the area; and a Hyundai dump truck owned by Jun Cadiz, resident of San Francisco, Agusan del Sur.

Police said residents in the area were awakened by the incident, and some of them tried to put out the fire but were prevented by the armed men.

Prosperidad's municipal police said it was still conducting an investigation as of posting time to determine the motives of the perpetrators including the total damages.

The provincial police of Agusan del Sur said the suspected NPA members belong to the Guerrilla Front 19 operating in the area.

In a text message to the Philippine News Agency on Wednesday, 1Lt. Krisjuper Andreo Punsalan, civil-military operations officer of the Army's 3rd Special Forces Battalion (3SFBn), said they are also investigating the incident. (PNA)
