MANILA -- Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) has revised its Manila-Zamboanga flight schedules from January 10 to 15 as the Zamboanga International Airport closes for night operations to give way to the repair of runway lights.

Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) spokesperson Eric Apolonio told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Friday that the repair of the defective runway lights is not due to any damage in the airport, for example, but a maintenance issue.

"This is just a maintenance issue. The engineering (department) could not predict when the wear and tear, especially in the underground cable, would occur," Apolonio said.

He also noted that the Zamboanga International Airport is still operating, which means one could not just dig at the runway anytime.

Operations will only be 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., so the repair of runway lights could only start after 6 p.m., he added.

New schedule:

* PR 2993 Manila-Zamboanga 4:40 a.m. (Departing an hour later from its original schedule)
* PR2994 Zamboanga-Manila 7 a.m. (Departing an hour later from its original schedule)
* PR2997 Manila-Zamboanga 2:50 p.m. (Departing two hours ahead of its original schedule)
* PR2998 Zamboanga-Manila 5:25 p.m. (Departing two hours ahead of its original schedule). (PNA
