ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to conduct registration of voters in preparation for the presidential and local polls in 2022.

Lawyer Jan Christian Babiera, second district election officer, said Wednesday the voters registration will start Jan. 20, 2020 and ends Sept. 30, 2021.

Babiera said they are currently preparing the needed equipment and documents to be used in the registration of voters, which will be held at the local Comelec office.

He said the satellite voters’ registration will depend on the request of the barangay officials, adding they will also accommodate other services like correction, transfer and reactivation of registration.

“We remind the public to register early and not to wait for the last minute,” he said.

This city has a total of 388,063 registered voters as of Oct. 21, 2019.

Of the total, 186,622 are registered in the first district and the remaining 201,441 in the second district. (PNA)
