MANILA -- Manila City Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso on Thursday said the local government will distribute 100,000 face masks to the public following the coronavirus scare worldwide.

In a statement, Domagoso said this is in line with the government's precautionary measures to provide protection for Manileños.

"Ito po ang ating initial na distribution ng mga face masks. Tuloy-tuloy po ang ating pag-distribute nito sa mga susunod na linggo (This is the initial distribution of facemasks. The distribution will continue on to the next weeks)," Domagoso said.

Domagoso reported that there is no case of coronavirus in the city per monitoring of the Manila Health Department.

He also urged the public to remain alert and take preventive measures against the virus, the symptoms of which include cough and cold, headache, fever, and sore throat.

The Department of Health is yet to confirm any case of coronavirus in the country despite its spread in Southeast Asia. (PNA)
