BALANGA CITY, Bataan -- A big number of people on Sunday trooped to the Wetland Park in Tortugas, a fishing village here, to join the clean-up of Manila Bay.

The day marked the first-year anniversary of the Battle for Manila Bay aimed at cleaning and rehabilitating it.

Simultaneous clean-up activities were held in Barangay Tawiran in Obando, Bulacan; Barangay Consuelo in Macabebe, Pampanga; and in Tortugas.

As the short clean-up went on and a program followed, flocks of small, medium and large egret and tern feasted on small fishes at a fishpond nearby.

The egrets were busy feeding at the dried portion of the fishpond, while the terns were diving for small fish in the fishpond.

The egrets and terns are some of the many species of migratory birds arriving in Bataan early part of September to escape the cold winter months in their countries of origin, and leave the province late March every year.

Most of the birds come from Europe and mainland Asia. (PNA)
