CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan—Almost 600 Bulakenyos availed of free medical and surgical services in a mission on Monday initiated by the Philippine Medical Association (PMA) Medical Mission Foundation of Greater St. Louis, Missouri, United States of America in partnership with the provincial government of Bulacan.

This is the eighth time that the foundation from the US and the provincial government have partnered to provide free health services to residents of Bulacan.

Ma. Fe Batac, 60, from Barangay Mambog, City of Malolos, said this is her second time to take part in the medical and surgical mission and shared her experience during the checkup.

"Pangalawang taon ko na po na nagpupunta dito sa medical mission. Ngayon po, na-check na highblood po ako at tsaka ipinatingin ko po yong likod ko, sa spinal area. Bilang pasyente, napakalaking bagay po nito sa amin dahil hindi naman po kami madalas nakakapag pa-check up sa mga private na ospital. Dito po, binigyan pa kami ng gamot “This is my second year in going to this medical mission. This time, I was checked as having high blood pressure and also consulted my back in the spinal area. As a patient, this is a big thing for us because we do not always go for check-up in private hospitals. Here, we were even given medicines)," Batac said on the first day of the medical and surgical mission held at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium.

The delegates from the USA were welcomed by the provincial officials headed by Governor Daniel Fernando and Vice Governor Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado.

“We have been doing this for eight years and we are happy to help people out. We thank all the individuals behind this project and I am hoping that we are able to help more people this year,” said Dr. Vicente Zata, president of PMA Medical Mission Foundation of Greater St. Louis, Missouri.

The governor expressed his gratitude to the association.

"Your generous contribution of time and energy to this medical mission has been an incredible gift to our people. Your generosity extends not only through your acts of giving but also through the lives that you help transform through this mission," Fernando said.

The four-day free medical and surgical mission will run until January 30. (PNA)
