Village exec, 2 others hurt in Cotabato City ambush

COTABATO CITY – Motorcycle-riding gunmen wounded in an ambush a village chairperson and her two female companions around noon here Tuesday.

Col. Portia Manalad, city police director, identified the victims as Bai Ella Biruar, village chairperson of Barangay Bagua Mother, and her two companions Princess Odin and Jasmin Samson.

Manalad said the victims were on board a Toyota Fortuner vehicle when tailed and fired upon at close range by four gunmen aboard two motorbikes around 12:30 p.m. in front of the San Roque Chapel in the village.

"The victims were heading home from the downtown area when ambushed,” the police official said, adding that they have yet to determine who among the victims was driving the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Eyewitnesses rushed the victims to a hospital, where they are currently being treated.

Police investigators have yet to establish the motive behind the attack. (PNA)
