DAVAO CITY -- Property builders are looking at 2020 as a very good year for Davao's real estate industry, a ranking official of the Chamber of Real Estate and Builders' Association, Inc. (Creba) said Wednesday.

In a press briefing here, Creba-Davao chapter president Maria Luisa Abaya said she considers this year as a turning point in Davao's economy, citing the various master-planned communities and real property development taking root in the city and the region.
"2020 will be a year of increasing investor interests and business expansion," Abaya said.

She noted this city's "changing landscape as it heads the economic boom of Mindanao and helps boost the country's economic growth."

In particular, Abaya said the city’s real property sector has continued to "grow positively."

Citing the PHP4 billion investments in the last quarter of 2019, she said they expect a much better performance this year as property developers outside Davao are looking at relocating.

Meanwhile, she said the earthquake that hit the Davao region and neighboring areas in the last quarter of 2019 has opened up lessons for the industry.

For instance, she said, the sector and the local government units are tightening building standards and implementing enhanced regulations in the issuance of building permits.

"Investor confidence is still there," Abaya said, assuring that developers are ensuring to build quality projects to protect their brands. (PNA)
