Mati City submits tourism projects for Tieza funding

DAVAO CITY -- The city of Mati in Davao Oriental has identified 10 tourism-oriented projects for possible funding this year from the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (Tieza).

In a statement Thursday, the Mati City Information Office (CIO) said the Technical Working Group for TIEZA projects are already preparing the documents for submission.

Mati City Tourism Officer Dashiel Indelible Jr. identified the following projects as the Eco-Tourism and Environment Center, Dahican Tourism Belt Drainage and Water Treatment Facility, Buso Hot Spring Park Spillway and Embankment, Badas Fishermen’s Cross, and Punta Gemelina Boardwalk.

Also included are: Tourist assistance centers in Mamali, Tagabakid, and Badas; Tourist Police Outpost in Dahican; restoration of Lighthouse in the Port Area; sleeping Dinosaur Eco-Trail Development; and Botanical Farm in Sudlon and Culian.

TIEZA is an agency under the Department of Tourism (DOT) responsible for implementing policies and programs of the department on the development, promotion, and supervision of tourism projects in the Philippines.

The famous Subangan Museum is one of the Tieza-funded projects in the city.

Mayor Michelle Rabat has identified tourism as one of the priorities of her administration to entice investors and visitors to the city.

On the other hand, the Mati local government unit said it will allot PHP2 million per barangay for this year for "soft"  and "hard projects."

Implemented under the Kilos Barangay program, it covers the provision of financial support to the 26 barangays to strengthen their capacity to implement programs, projects, and activities that have socio-economic impacts on the community.

CIO said each barangay has already identified and submitted the infrastructure project needed in their respective barangays consist of road concreting and rehabilitation, land purchase, construction of potable water system, multi-purpose hall, evacuation centers, and reforestation. (PNA)
