MANILA -- The Philippines was eliminated from the Badminton Asia Team Championships as Indonesia swept the host country in the quarterfinals, 3-0, at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum here on Friday.

Indonesia, ranked third in the world, made quick work of the Philippines in the Final 8 round, although Ros Pedrosa, Peter Magnaye, and Alvin Morada had some bright moments.

Pedrosa, the top men's singles player in the Philippines right now, put up a great fight against world number five Anthony Ginting in the second set of their match, but Ginting still proved to be strong as he hacked out a 21-10, 21-16 win.

Magnaye and Morada, on the other hand, were on track to stun the pair of Hendra Setiawan and Mohammad Ahsan in the first set of their men's doubles match, but the world number two eventually escaped in Set 1 before taking a straight-set win of their own, 21-16, 21-12.

Jonatan Christie turned back Lanz Zafra in the second singles match-up, 21-11, 21-14, to seal Indonesia's entry into the semifinals.

The Philippines' quarterfinal qualification, however, was a remarkable feat for a team that entered the tournament 66th in the world. (PNA
