DUMAGUETE CITY -- An incumbent city councilor of Bayawan City was killed in broad daylight by riding-in-tandem suspects Tuesday morning.

Lt. Col. Alfonzo Enriquez, officer in charge chief of police of Bayawan, identified the victim as Councilor Alex Diamante Tizon, 66, who won in the last election as the lone candidate under the ticket of Gov. Roel Degamo.

Tizon was on his way home to Barangay Villareal around 10:40 a.m. when bonnet-wearing suspects on board a motorcycle approached his car and shot him at close range.

Witnesses said the firearm used could be an automatic handgun.

Enriquez said policemen have recovered four fired shells of a caliber 9mm pistol from the crime scene, which is a secluded area.

Tizon previously ran for vice mayor of Bayawan City but lost. (PNA)
