BUTUAN CITY – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) 13 (Caraga) posted a total collection of PHP49.2 million in January, 35 percent higher than the PHP36.5 million collected in the same month last year.

Director of LTO-13, Nordy Plaza, attributed the increase in revenue to its intensified “Balik Rehistro” campaign, a localized program that the agency initiated in 2017.

“The campaign is in line with our mandate to ensure the road safety of commuters in Caraga,” Plaza told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Thursday.

He added that “Balik Rehistro” aims to eradicate unregistered vehicles and unlicensed drivers in the area.

Road safety, Plaza said, is among the priority advocacy campaigns of the LTO under the leadership of Assistant Secretary Edgar C. Galvante.

Urbano Maglines Jr., operations chief and spokesperson of LTO-13, also told PNA that the number of motor vehicles registered last month increased to 25,711 from 19,682 in the same period last year.

The number of motor vehicles handled in the area also increased to 28,711 in January from 22,906 in January 2019.

“An increase of 55.5 percent was also posted in the number of licenses issued by LTO-Caraga from 19,253 in January 2019 to 29,939 in the same period this year,” Maglines said.

Since last month, LTO-13 and its district offices launched intensified law enforcement operations that resulted in 1,050 apprehensions, compared to 126 apprehensions in January 2019, he added.

The LTO-13 and district offices recorded a rise in the number of license transactions handled from 30,382 in January 2019 to 47,244 last month.

Plaza lauded the efforts of LTO district offices for strengthening law enforcement operations in their respective areas through the “Balik Rehistro” program.

“Balik Rehistro is our own initiative that we implement in every end and opening of the year for us to emphasize our mandate,” he said. (PNA)
