MANILA — The Philippine Army (PA) has received 7,571 copies of the Bible from the Gideons International on Monday, an official said.

In a statement on Wednesday, Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala, PA spokesperson, said the Bibles were handed by group representative, retired Brig. Gen. Jose Johnriel Cenabre to Army chief-of-staff Brig. Gen. Rowen Tolentino in a short ceremony at Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

These will be distributed inside Army Headquarters units and offices.

“On behalf of the Commanding General, Philippine Army, I would like to thank Gideons International Association for your support to our soldiers. The Bible is always a reliable source of strength and wisdom, and the Philippine Army is glad to receive such blessings," Tolentino said.

The Gideons International, a group of Christian businessmen and professionals, began distributing Bibles to soldiers in 1941 under the motto: “arm them with the Gospel too.”

The group has also been supplying free Bible copies to the Armed Forces of the Philippines to be placed inside military chapels and bases.

“With rigor and risk of the call of duty, the Word of God provides our soldiers a higher level of courage, faith, and duty that transpires through their performance and determination,” Tolentino said. (PNA)
