ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Government troops recovered war materials and other personal belongings abandoned by the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) bandits after a clash in the province of Sulu, a top military official said Wednesday.

Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) chief, said the clash happened Tuesday afternoon in Barangay Liu-Bud Pantao, Talipao, Sulu.

Sobejana said the clash ensued as the troops of the Army’s 1st Scout Ranger Battalion chanced upon 10 ASG bandits while conducting a military operation in Barangay Liu-Bud Pantao, Talipao.

The firefight lasted for about 30 minutes before the ASG bandits fled, dragging along their casualties, the Army official said. No one among the troops was either killed or wounded.

Sobejana said the troops recovered from the clash site ammunition, a 40-mm cartridge, cash amounting to PHP14,000, and other materials.

“While we continue with our peace campaigns, we are also intensifying our military operations to neutralize the obstinate members of the different threat groups in our area of operation who remain to be the menace of society,” Sobejana said. (PNA)
