ANGELES CITY, Pampanga – Authorities on Tuesday set up 24-hour checkpoints in all entry and exit points of this city to restrict the entry of foreign nationals from countries with cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. said he ordered the Angeles City police to start the implementation of strict checkpoints starting Tuesday midnight.

“We have asked for the guidance of the Department of Health (DOH) and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on this matter,” he said.

Lazatin met with DOH 3 (Central Luzon) Director Cesar Cassion and DILG city official Martin Moral, who recommended restrictions for foreigners from China, Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, Japan, Iran, and Italy.

He said he would also meet with mall managers to discuss precautionary measures against Covid-19.

“I will also meet with Department of Education (DepEd) officials, private school officials, and day care officials tomorrow (Wednesday) for the city-wide disinfection. The city government will provide disinfection agents to all public and private schools,” Lazatin said.

He also said he is set to convene the Angeles City Local Price Committee Council to monitor prices of goods and the Angeles City Local Health Board for other precautionary measures. (PNA)
