ZAMBOANGA CITY – The City Health Office (CHO) has placed under close monitoring for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who arrived here two days ago from Hong Kong, one of the places with confirmed Covid-19 cases.

CHO chief, Dr. Dulce Amor Miravite said on Tuesday the arrival of the OFW was reported to her office by the village chairperson.

Miravite said the female OFW has asked her employer in Hong Kong to go home after learning that her father was sick.

Miravite said CHO personnel have already interviewed the OFW to gather data and checked the health condition of the woman, who is required to undergo a 14-day self-quarantine.

The OFW informed the CHO personnel that she had already passed the thermal scanner at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and another thermal procedure upon arrival at the Zamboanga International Airport, she said.

Meanwhile, Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar has called on the residents to refrain from sharing coronavirus-related information on social media without verifying its authenticity.

“Please, I appeal to you to triple check, this is not the moment to be careless in sharing information on social media,” Salazar said.

Salazar’s statement was in reaction to several Facebook posts indicating that a child was rushed to a hospital after being infected by the virus.

The mayor warned that false information will have broader repercussions on the government's ability to contain the virus. (PNA)
