CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — The Provincial Health Office (PHO) here on Tuesday said there is no confirmation yet of the reported positive case of new coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in Santa Maria town.

Dr. Joy Gomez, chief of the PHO-Bulacan, said in an interview that the Department of Health (DOH) Regional Office and PHO are currently assessing the validity of the report that one of the new four Covid-19 cases is from the town.

Gomez said the DOH Regional Office is trying to confirm the pronouncement of President Rodrigo Duterte that there is a positive case of the viral disease in Santa Maria.

She said they are also validating if the case was a local transmission or if the patient is a resident of the town but contracted the virus somewhere else.

Gomez said they are continuously monitoring all towns and cities in the province to ensure the safety of Bulakenyos from Covid-19.

Santa Maria Mayor Russel Pleyto likewise said there is no confirmed case of Covid-19 in their town. He, however, urged his constituents not to panic over the news.

Based on PHO records as of March 9, all the 10 patients under investigation (PUIs) in Bulacan were tested negative and of the 64 patients under monitoring (PUMs), 57 were already cleared.

Pending the confirmation of the reported case in Santa Maria, Governor Daniel Fernando on Tuesday ordered the suspension of classes in all levels, both in public and private schools in the province, as a precautionary measure against Covid-19 in the light of the confirmed cases in Metro Manila.

The governor also reminded the Bulakenyos to continue implementing preventive measures and avoid going to crowded public places. (PNA)
