Baler steps up prevention, control measures vs. coronavirus

BALER, Aurora — The municipal government here is stepping up its prevention and control measures against the new coronavirus disease (Covid-19) to protect the health of the residents in this capital town of Aurora province.

Mayor Rhett Ronan T. Angara convened the department heads and met with barangay officials on Thursday to discuss measures on how to prevent and control the spread of the disease.

He said the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) has readied some PHP2.25 million for the purchase of thermo scanners, digital thermometers and masks, among others, as an initial move against the contagious disease.

A task force was likewise established to strictly monitor the entry checkpoints to be manned by representatives from the Department of Health (DOH), Philippine National Police, Philippine Army, barangay health emergency and response team and local officials, among others.

Angara said tourists whose place of origin has the history of the disease is also discouraged from visiting the town.

“Passengers coming in will be strictly monitored. There is a temperature checkup and have to fill up health declaration card to guard this town against potential carriers of Covid-19,” he said.

The mayor also discouraged activities that involve mass gatherings.

“I am discouraging residents from attending crowded events and activities,” he added.

He also instructed barangay officials to disseminate information on the preventive measures against Covid-19.

“People must be informed on the virus’ ways of transmission, signs and symptoms, and precautionary measures such as regular handwashing, maintaining healthy lifestyles, ensuring food safety and consulting a physician when having symptoms attributable to respiratory infection,” the mayor said.
