DUMAGUETE CITY – The Public Employment Service Office (PESO) here announced on Tuesday the cancelation of a number of activities in line with the directives from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the city government here on the holding of mass gatherings amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) threat.

PESO-Dumaguete chief Ma. Socorro Mira said they have received a copy of DOLE Administrative Order No. 106, series of 2020 putting on hold employment facilitation programs to prevent the spread of the disease.

Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo issued Executive Order No. 209, series of 2020, cancelling training, seminars, and similar large gatherings to contain the spread of Covid-19.

Mira said among those indefinitely postponed are the Summer Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) and the Local and Overseas Job Fair, jointly held by the city government and the DOLE provincial office.

The SPES this summer would have offered 300 job slots for students, with screening originally scheduled last March 16.

Mira said they already handed out application forms but postponed the screening.

On the other hand, they have also put on hold the job fair, as well as the JobStart Program for youth, which provide the basic skills to enhance the employability of the Filipino youth.

The Local and Overseas Job Fair was originally scheduled here on April 4. (PNA)
