MANILA – The city government of Taguig on Thursday distributed health kits for senior citizens and those with underlying health conditions amid the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
Mayor Lino Cayetano said they already devised a schedule for the distribution of health kits to the city's 28 barangays and they prioritized 68,000 senior citizens and 60,000 vulnerable residents or have underlying diseases such as hypertension and diabetes.
City government personnel led by Councilor Beng Maximo led the distribution of health kits in Barangay South Signal.
Mayor's Action Team personnel went house to house in each barangay to distribute health kits.
Included in the kits were face masks, soaps, Vitamin C that is enough for 30 days and brochures with information on how to combat coronavirus.
Aside from the kits, Cayetano said grocery items would be distributed to residents.
Cayetano assured the delivery of 2,000 grocery packs to 28 barangays in the city every day to prevent the residents from going out of their houses.
“We did it door-to-door. We decided not to do it at the covered court because we want to prevent our constituents from gathering. One of the things we must address is the daily needs of our people. We started to release family food packs yesterday and then we will again roll out in 15 barangays),” he told reporters.
Last Tuesday, Cayetano ordered a lockdown of the city to contain the spread of the Covid-19.
The city government is also providing free rides for healthcare and emergency workers from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. to various routes such as hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, and other medical facilities.
Cayetano mobilized all local government agencies to help in the battle against Covid-19 and appealed to the public to go beyond the government quarantine measures to combat the spread of the virus aggressively.
So far, Taguig has only five confirmed Covid-19 cases. (PNA)
