PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur – Zamboanga del Norte Gov. Roberto Uy has ordered the closure of all the province's borders effective Saturday amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) threat.

Uy's Executive Order 2020-24-A bars non-resident workers in Zamboanga del Norte--both in government and private--from entering the province.

Uy advised the affected persons to find temporary shelter in Zamboanga del Norte until such time the general community quarantine is lifted.

“There is an urgent need to exert more stringent effort in restricting the entry of people in the province in order to effectively contain the transmission of Covid-19,” the governor said.

Exempted from the travel restrictions are health workers, persons responding to emergency situations, authorized government officials and employees with Covid-19 response-related travels, uniformed personnel, and government auxiliary forces.

Uy also said persons traveling for urgent medical reasons, excluding persons with Covid-19 and respiratory illness, groups rendering humanitarian aid and services, among others, are covered by the order.

Zamboanga del Norte has 4,382 persons under monitoring and 72 patients under investigation as of March 20, based on the data gathered by the Task Force Covid-19.

The province of Zamboanga del Norte, which comprises of two component cities and 25 municipalities, has a population of 1,011,393 as of the 2015 census. (PNA)
