DUMAGUETE CITY – Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo has ordered the closure of all internet cafés, massage parlors, fitness gyms, spas, and other establishments where clients have person-to-person contact to stem the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

City Hall public information officer Dems Rey Demecillo said over the weekend that the mayor, who chairs the city’s Inter-Agency Task Force Covid-19, also issued additional executive orders “to enhance the precautionary measures to prevent the possibility of the transmission” of the virus.

These include establishments for the continued normal operations of certain establishments such as hospitals, medical clinics, pharmacies and drug stores, water refilling stations, business process outsourcing establishments, money transfer services, power, energy and telecommunications facilities.

The directive also provides strict observance of safety measures in these establishments such as hand-washing and the use of alcohol/hand sanitizers, mandatory wearing of face masks, and social distancing.

The city government will also be giving cash assistance/emergency employment to displaced workers, alongside the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

Qualified workers of the affected industries will be identified as beneficiaries to receive financial assistance.

The Public Employment Service Office and the DOLE will also provide emergency employment for displaced workers under the TUPAD or Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers program.

Food establishments have also been asked to close early at night after Governor Roel Degamo announced last week the imposition of curfew hours from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Col. Julian Entoma, provincial police director of Negros Oriental, said that so far, the people here have been cooperative with the authorities in the implementation of curfew hours as well as regular checkpoints conducted by the police. (PNA)
