Covid-19 patient in Pampanga dies

ANGELES CITY, Pampanga – A 68-year-old female patient from Apalit town who tested positive for new coronavirus disease (Covid-19) died Thursday night.

Apalit Mayor Jun Tetangco said the elderly patient passed away at the Angeles University Foundation Medical Center (AUFMC) here. It was the first fatality and confirmed the Covid case in the municipality.

“The municipality of Apalit is informing its constituents of a reported death of one of our own residents due to Covid- 19. Rest assured, the Apalit inter-agency task force is doing its best to ensure the continued safety of our municipality,” Tetangco said in a statement posted on their official social media account.

It was also reported that the patient’s husband has a fever after being exposed to his wife, who had traveled to the United States.

The mayor said the Municipal Health Office (MHO) will do contact tracing to determine who the patient was in close contact with.

“Let us continue to be brave in these difficult times and adhere to the prescribed regulations set forth by our office,” Tetangco added.

Meanwhile, the AUFMC assured that all persons who had close contact with the patient have been accounted for and will be undergoing a 14-day mandatory quarantine as mandated by DOH protocol.

“We wish to assure the public that safeguards are strictly enforced at AUF Medical Center to prevent the spread of the virus and ensure the safety of everyone - our patients, and companions and visitors and out hospital staff. We continue to work closely with the DOH the local government to limit the spread of Covid-19,” AUFMC said in their advisory.

Apalit has 26 patients under investigation (PUIs) and 672 persons under monitoring (PUMs) as of Friday.

Pampanga has six confirmed Covid cases including three deaths, according to the Provincial Health Office.

The number of PUIs stands at 98 while PUMs at 11,290. (PNA)
