DAVAO CITY — The staff of several hospitals in North Cotabato will receive from the chief of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) five free "lechon manok" or roasted chicken weekly starting Sunday, March 29.

In his Facebook post on Sunday, MinDA chairman, Secretary Emmanuel Piñol, said his treat to medical workers is his modest gesture of support to the front-liners in the fight against the 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

The hospitals that are set to initially receive the first delivery include the Cotabato Provincial Hospital, New Cebu District Hospital, M'lang District Hospital, Fr. Favali Memorial Hospital, Arakan Valley District Hospital, Kidapawan City Hospital, Makilala Medical Specialists Hospital, Inc., Madonna Medical Center, Inc. and Kidapawan Doctors Hospital.

Piñol said these hospitals were selected based on reports that they receive patients showing symptoms of Covid-19 like cough and high fever.

“If your hospital is in the vicinity of my farm accepting patients with Covid19-like symptoms but was not included in the list, please message me. You will have your Manok Pinoy Lechon next Sunday,” he said.

Piñol also said he could not give much since he also has to buy feeds for his chickens and pay the wages of his workers.

“That’s all that I can afford to give personally as people know that I am not rich. This is just my way of saluting and saying thank you to the people who are risking their lives just to save others,” he added.

Piñol also promised her daughter who is a doctor at the St. Luke's Medical Center in Quezon City 100 pieces of Manok Pinoy Lechon once the Covid-19 national emergency is lifted.

“After this Covid-19 National Emergency, I will personally deliver the Lechon Manok Pinoy to you. I will give 100 pieces of my free-range, naturally grown and healthy chicken which I personally bred and developed, the Manok Pinoy,” he added. (PNA)
