DAGUPAN CITY – Some 1,619 teaching and non-teaching personnel of the Department of Education (DepEd) Dagupan City Schools Division will receive their April salary and clothing allowance, an official said on Thursday.

"DepEd Central Office worked with the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to have our salaries and clothing allowance to be released early, if possible this week, considering the current pandemic that resulted to the extreme enhanced community quarantine,” Dagupan City Schools Division Superintendent Maria Celia Fernandez said in an interview.

She said the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) crisis made it difficult for them to process the documents needed for the teachers’ salaries, but the city government of Dagupan helped them.

"I called up and asked Dagupan City Mayor Marc Brian Lim if he can send a service vehicle and a driver to bring to me the documents from my team since passage from the checkpoints from town to town is very strict," she added.

Fernandez is residing in Bayambang town and will need to go through San Carlos City, Basista, and Calasiao towns to reach Dagupan.

She added the Landbank of the Philippines (LBP) Dagupan branch also processed their documents amid the quarantine.

"Thank God LBP execs agreed to my suggestion that my signature will be done later when the quarantine is lifted,” Fernandez said.

Since President Rodrigo Duterte has placed Luzon under enhanced community quarantine, DepEd has also been implementing a work-from-home (WFH) scheme like other government offices.

Fernandez conducted their first online meeting with the Division Top Management and Schools Cluster Team Leaders on March 27. (PNA)
